We have a stunning view of Wellington Bay from Petone Beach on a calm evening. In the background you see the lights of Wellington. The beach is most of the time fairly empty and a walk in the evening sun is really relaxing.
The only disadvantage of Petone is that you are in the mid of the tsunami desaster zone!
However - and of course - Kiwis are fairly laid back: "Tsunami warning triggers relaxed response!"
Despite police, Civil Defence and surf club members clearing curious sightseers off beaches, the majority of people did not know or did not care about the tsunami dangers.
