Most Kiwis have a real issue around being direct - not that they want to be elusive - but that they want to avoid offending, which I think comes from our English background
A common conversation I overheard between two family members illustrated perfectly the effect Kiwi culture had on the way we communicate
The question was: "I don't suppose you would like a cup of tea."
"I wouldn't say no," was the reply.
For people who come from overseas, it just drives me mad. It's difficult to get a straight answer.
