Die Genesung schreitet voran ...

Vor drei Wochen habe ich mir die Schulter beim Skifahren leicht verletzt, aber immerhin genug um den Sport nicht weiter auszuführen. Mittlerweile kann ich den Arm aber wieder vollständig bewegen, auch wenn es hier und da noch etwas zwickt. Also, die letzten Wochen der Skisaison sollten noch genutzt werden ...

Skiing and Middle Earth

I have not put many news on the blog lately because I was fairly busy discovering the ski fields on the North and South Island.

Starting with Ruapehu and the Tongariro volcano that erupted shortly after our stay.

Last week we were on Mt Hutt where I hurt my should on the first day! Grrrrr.... so no more skiing but discovering Middle Earth.

We were in Edoras the capital of Rohan.

Skiing on an active volcano

Yep! That is New Zealand, the North Island ski fields are actually built on an active volcano.

Last weekend was perfect, blue sky and sunshine and Mt Tongariro spit ashes .... awesome!

I was on my way back from Australia. The Tasmanian Sea below me and it was full moon ... wonderful! And arriving in Wellington is just stunning ...

Met the Hobbit!

It is true! I was on a concert last Saturday and guess who was there? Bilbo Baggins, the little Hobbit, aka Martin Freeman!

It seemed that the little man enjoyed his beer and the concert as much as I did.

Brisbane, Australia

I was down under!
Well, most European tourist have seen and start the trip eihter in Sydney or Melbourne.

I have experienced the vibrant city of Brisbane, Queensland's capital, last week. I enjoyed an exciting and diverse range of attractions, restaurants and sights. Brisbane has something for everyone, whether you're here for business, planning a family holiday or wanting a cosmopolitan city experience without the sky-high prices of Sydney, well on the last point, I might disagree a bit, prices were high too!

Teriyaki al sal

Last time my Indian flatmate cooked kourma for us, originated in the Muglai cuisine, so this time it is my turn.

Ok, the original Spanish dish should be done with snapper but our Chinese fish shop only had one snapper left over on yesterday's market, so we went for Teriyaki, a slightly smaller fish, but with similar taste and flavour.

 Put the whole fish with lemon juice, some thym and garlic on a bed of salt, cover them with another layer of salt ...

 Put in for 40 min in the oven (250 C), remove the salt, difficult because it hardens ....

Eat the juicy fish and the left over are the carcasses and a battlefield ... Jai liked it and took the pictures ....

Ich glaube, jedes Land hat so sein Problem mit jungen Autofahrern, die zu schnell fahren und die Straße als Rennstrecke benutzen.
Neuseeland hat da ein spezielles Problem mit und hat jetzt drastische Maßnahmen ergriffen. Wenn man dreimal bei Rasen erwischt wird und das fängt schon beim Kickstart an der Ampel an, wird das Auto eingezogen und in die Presse geschickt. Der Fahrer bekommt auch eine höfliche Einladung, um bei dem Spektakel anwesend sein zu dürfen.
Das Foto zeigt übrigens die Polizeiministerin auf dem Auto, das in 38 Sekunden im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes platt gemacht wurde.

GC steht für Gold Coast ...

... und das ist die neueste reality show in NZ, die aber in Australien, in "Gold Coast" spielt. Gold Coast ist eine Touri-Stadt südlich von Brisbane. Wer mehr über die Serie erfahren möchte, hier. Ich warne Euch allerdings, der slang ist beachtlich und die Reality-Darsteller teilweise richtig unterbelichtet.

Primetime Samstagabend in Neuseeland

Was zeigt man zur besten Sendezeit? In Europa und Amerika würde man wohl einen spannenden Thriller oder Action Film erwarten. In Deutschland vielleicht noch eine lustige Rate- und Wett-show, bei der die Zuschauer im Takt mitklatschen.

Nicht so in Neuseeland. Samstagabend ist Zeit für "The Fishing Show": Da lernt man, wie man angelt!

I bought a new backpack for tramping. The Kiwis call trekking "tramping"!  I made a test run on the weekend and I think I will go for a weekend trip with an overnight stay in one of the huts of Akatarawa forest.

It was really cold the last days in NZ and snow arrived in the South Island and on higher altitude in the North Island .... which means skiing season will start soon!

Köln-Düsseldorf auch ein Thema in NZ

War heute abend mit meinem flatmate tanzen und hatte eine junge Kiwi als Tanzpartnerin, die nach Düsseldorf möchte, um Deutsch zu lernen. Das habe ich ihr natürlich sofort ausgeredet: sie soll doch bitte schön, nach Kölle gehen, um Lust am Leben und der Liebe zu haben ... de Höhner kannte sie noch nicht!

Queen's birthday weekend

Das bedeutet ein langes Wochenende, weil die Königin wie gesagt, ja Geburtstag hat und das muss gefeiert werden.

Big boys and their toys

Ein flatmate von uns hatte auf der Arbeit einen Wasserschaden und hat jetzt 7 Flachbildschirme mitgebracht, dazu kommen noch: 7 Wii, 4 PS3, 1 XBox, 2 Suroundanlage, 2 Computer, 2 PSVita, 5 PSPortable ....
Wir haben alles angeschlossen und ein ganzen Wochenede vor der Klotze gehockt und alle Spiele ausprobiert. Ich kam mir vor wie 13!

Parent's heartbreak

Ein Ehepaar aus Wellington, das in Doha arbeitet, hat seine Drillinge im Feuer des Einkaufszentrums verloren. Die drei Kinder waren im Kindergarten der Mall als das Feuer ausbrach. Praktisch das ganz Land trauert mit der Familie und zeigt sein Mitgefühl.

Wellington marathon is coming nearer and a young colleague of mine, Daniel, took me on his challenging run. Through the botanic gardens and up the hill. I was lucky that the weather was fine and no wind! Unusual for Welly!

Sonntag, 20. Mai früh aufstehen und Championsleague Finale angucken ...

Um 6h45 wurde das Spiel im londonblau-dominierten Pub "The backbencher" übertragen. Ein paar Bayern-Fans waren auch anwesend. Ich stehe ja nicht so auf die Bayern, nicht das Chelsea jetzt ein unbedingt ehrenwerter Verein ist, die haben genauso viel Rückgrat wie die Bayern!
Zum Glück sind die Bayern aber so vollduselig, dass sie mehr als verdient verloren haben. Too right! Chell-seeaaa, Chell-seeaaa, Chell-seeaa ....

Tough ride

The training pace is getting tougher! Kerrin, Warwick and Louis (16 years old an on the way to become NZ cycling champion in his age group) chased me against a cold southerly wind into Wellington, up the Ngio gorge up the next hill to Karori and down to Makara beach. If you think we stop to enjoy the view on the beach, wrong! We went on up to Johnsonville and back to Petone. It was a tough ride I can tell you.

In the Blue Mountains ....

Ja, die "Blue Mountains" sind eigentlich in Australien, aber wir haben hier in Wellington auch ein paar "blue mountains". Die bin ich am Wochenende mit dem Fahrrad hochgefahren! Anstregend sage ich euch!

Was ist ein "hikoi"?

Ein hikoi ist ein Protestmarsch, oder eine Demo!
Derzeit gibt es eine Demo, die sich durch ganz Neuseeland zieht: "Aotearoa is Not For Sale" 

Es muss Wattie's sein

Insbesondere bei Ketchup verstehen die Kiwis keinen Spaß. Es muss unbedingt die Marke "Wattie's" sein, sonst wird es nicht gegessen.

Von Sunden und Fjorden ...

Also die Kiwis haben's nicht so mit genauen Bezeichnungen: Fjorde sind in Neuseeland Sunde, und Sunde eigentlich unbekannt!
Also wenn ihr in NZ einen "Sound" besucht, z.B. den Milford Sound oder Doubtful Sound, dann ist das technisch gesprochen ein "Fjord".
Ein Fjord ist ein Meeresarm, der weit ins Landesinnere reicht und durch einen Gletscher entstanden ist. Ein Sund hingegen ist nur eine enge Meerestraße.

Hitler gets to know that farmville is not real

Unser indischer Mitbewohner, Jay, hat uns ziemlich geschockt, als wir auf seinem Handy Hitlers Stimme hörten.  Er meinte, dass sei richtig lustig, weil Hitler gerade erfährt, dass farmville gar nicht wirklich existiert.
Dummerweise hat der englische Untertitel natürlich überhaupt nichts mit dem Filmausschnitt zu tun. Und wir hatten schon Bedenken, dass unser arischer Mitbewohner seltsam Vorlieben hat ....

Neue Tracks

Es ist mal wieder Zeit, Euch auf den aktuellen Stand der Wanderungen in Neuseeland zu bringen.

Ostern wurde der Queen Charlotte Track bewältigt. Nun ja, nicht der ganze Track, da meine weiblichen Mitwanderer gestreikt haben. Es war aber trotzdem beeindruckend, siehe Fotos.

Desweiteren wurde der Kapiti coastal track bewältigt. War aber nicht so anstregend.
