Christmas in NZ

Also unsere Vermieter stapeln die Weihnachtsgeschenk schon seit Anfang Dezember im Wohnzimmer. Es werden immer mehr und das sei hier so Sitte, laut Aussage von Amanda ....
Tja, da können wir nur hoffen, dass auch ein Geschenk für uns dabei ist.

Also wer in NZ mit den öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln unterwegs ist, wie wir im Moment, wird schnell merken, dass man sich beim Verlassen des Transportmittels (Bus, Bahn, Tram, cable car, ...) beim Fahrer lautstark und höflich bedankt ... "Thanks" oder "Thank you driver!" hört man an jeder Haltestelle.

Ich habe mich gefragt, ob das nun ein Teil der Höflichkeit ist, die man allenthalber und überall in NZ antrifft und die jedem ausnahmslos entgegengebracht wird, oder ob dies eher ein Ausdruck der Erleichterung ist, endlich das - meist doch etwas betagte - Verkehrsmittel ohne körperliche Blessuren und seelischen Schäden wieder verlassen zu können?!?

By the way, einige Wagons - siehe Bild oben - der Johnsonville Line - in Ermangelung eines Auto unser derzeitg bevorzugtes Transportmittel - sind nun wirklich nicht mehr die neuesten! Einige der Züge stammen noch aus den 50er Jahren des vorherigen Jahrhunderts.

Footballers in Europe be aware of NZ!

You remember the last World Championship in South Africa! NZ was unbeaten which even the German team did not manage to achieve.

I agree that actually you see on TV mostly Rugby, Rugby and Rugby and some Cricket.
But New Zealand Football isn’t neglecting its high performance either.
The NZ football association supports and delivers a "Small Whites" programme across the country, encouraging 4 to 11-year-old football players and their parents to get active and involved in football.

Ok, there is no real New Zealand Football League, but they are working on it.

Listen to my words: “Football is moving from strength to strength in this country and the sport will grow from the grassroots right through to elite levels.”

Walks and trails: Ngaio Gorge

Also, wie bereits erwähnt, sind track, trails und walks bei den "Enzdern" ganz wichtig.
Heute stand nur ein kleiner Walk an, in unserem derzeitigen Vorort von Wellington, Ngaio.

Bemerkenswert ist, dass diese Walk (ca. 2 Stunden hin und zurück) auf eine freiwillige Initiative der Bürger erbaut wurde und unterhalten wird.

Music of the 80s

Hello again!
Those of you who spent most of their childhood and youth in the 80s and were brought up with exceptional masterpieces of music like "I Want It All" by  Queen, "Tainted Love", The Cure , Camouflage, U2, Talk Talk or Billy Idol's "Rebel Yell" will love NZ of today (2010).
Every pub or bar still plays this kind of music, you feel like 20 again! An amazing experience.

I have got a theory about this most astonishing phenomenon:
1. Enzders in their 40s have worked for 20 years and made some money either overseas or in a boring 9 to 5 job.
2. Once in a while they have this idea to be "your own boss" and would like to start a business but have no clue what to do.
3. So, they open a bar, pub or - for those more daring - a restaurant.
4. Since Enzders do not want to make a fortune, they do not pay particular attention to the musical preferences of their clients - in pub mostly young men aged between 20 and 25.
5. Since they have to work the whole day in their own pub at least they would like to enjoy some "good old" music, hence, here we are!
