Walks and trails: Ngaio Gorge

Also, wie bereits erwähnt, sind track, trails und walks bei den "Enzdern" ganz wichtig.
Heute stand nur ein kleiner Walk an, in unserem derzeitigen Vorort von Wellington, Ngaio.

Bemerkenswert ist, dass diese Walk (ca. 2 Stunden hin und zurück) auf eine freiwillige Initiative der Bürger erbaut wurde und unterhalten wird.

Music of the 80s

Hello again!
Those of you who spent most of their childhood and youth in the 80s and were brought up with exceptional masterpieces of music like "I Want It All" by  Queen, "Tainted Love", The Cure , Camouflage, U2, Talk Talk or Billy Idol's "Rebel Yell" will love NZ of today (2010).
Every pub or bar still plays this kind of music, you feel like 20 again! An amazing experience.

I have got a theory about this most astonishing phenomenon:
1. Enzders in their 40s have worked for 20 years and made some money either overseas or in a boring 9 to 5 job.
2. Once in a while they have this idea to be "your own boss" and would like to start a business but have no clue what to do.
3. So, they open a bar, pub or - for those more daring - a restaurant.
4. Since Enzders do not want to make a fortune, they do not pay particular attention to the musical preferences of their clients - in pub mostly young men aged between 20 and 25.
5. Since they have to work the whole day in their own pub at least they would like to enjoy some "good old" music, hence, here we are!

Barfuß im Büro?

Hallo zusammen,

mein erste Post über das Büroleben in Neuseeland.
Also einige Kollegen, nein, viele Kollegen laufen entweder mit Strümpfen oder sogar barfuß durchs Büro! Das hat mich am Anfang etwas irritiert. Insbesondere zwei weibliche Kollegen erschienen mir noch kleiner als sonst. Nachdem ich bemerkt habe, dass sie barfuß im Büro rumliefen und ein paar andere Kollegen ebenfalls ohne Schuhe durchs Gebäude tapperten, bemerkte ich, dass dieses Verhalten wohl als ganz normal in Neuseeland angesehen wird.
Nun gut, ist schon angenehm ab und zu seine Schuhe unter dem Schreibtisch auszuziehen, aber direkt zum Drucker barfuß laufen, habe ich mich noch nicht getraut. To be seen ....

Walks, tracks and trails

Also die gibt's viele und außergewöhnliche in NZ.
Daher werde ich ab und zu einen walk oder auch einen längeren trail vorstellen. Wer einen der trails selbst nachgehen möchte, dem habe ich alle trails auf einer separaten Seite zusammengestellt.

Ein wenig Kiwi Englisch ...

Im Blog werden einige "Kiwi"-Ausdrücke benutzt. Daher zum besseren Verständnis hier die wichtigsten Wörter:

NZ = New Zealand (klar und eigentlich bedarf es keiner Erklärung)
Die Neuseeländer bezeichnen sich daher auch gerne als "enzeder"!

She'll be right, mate = Ist alles in Ordnung!

godzone = 'God's own (country)' oder kurz godzone

First day in Wellington

The journey was long! After London, Dubai and Sydney we finally arrived in Wellington in the middle of the night with a delay. Thank God Cavan was so patient while custom check-in took longer than expected.

But the morning sun woke us up ...

We spent the whole day watching the beautiful blue sky and the clouds. Truely, this was a great welcome!
